The tragic events of September 11, 2001 will never be forgotten. For the past decade, we have lived in a world of constant conflict where young men and women serve their country proudly in order to protect the freedoms we cherish dearly. Sculptor, Heather McMahan is truly an inspired American who feels these servicemen and women deserve to be honored every step of the way.

With no formal training, inspired by all she saw in post 9/11 America, Heather began sculpting with clay and created magnificent recreations of desert issue gear in such a way to “make the appearance of gear of a soldier whose duty of service was complete and he/she was eager to return home.“

She started the not-for-profit organization Art for Soldiers. Some of her deeply inspired work can be seen there at www.artforsoldiers.org. The purpose of this organization is to collect art and letters from school aged children and distribute them directly to the front lines.

Heather is the recipient of several awards and honors with a work featured in the Pentagon, an official White House Award, and a letter of appreciation from former President Bush. Her most truly cherished achievements are reading the letters she’s received over the years from the soldiers who truly felt her appreciation for everything they do for this country.

This Veteran’s Day the store “Young and Fabulous” in The Galleria Mall in Bee Cave, Texas will feature Heather’s work in order to raise funds for “Welcome Home” directly for Vietnam veterans. 15% of all proceeds will go to Vietnam veterans.
