This wisdom has guided me during my early years of training Residents in Orthopedic Surgery whose goals are to become skilled orthopedic surgeons. I always preached to them during their first day of training that they cannot be skilled surgeons if they just listen to lectures, because what they have heard, they will forget. They have to see what they want to learn by reading books and journals, looking at how the surgical procedures are done in the operating room and they will remember. But that's not enough.
