American sports broadcaster Howard Cosell was born in North Carolina in 1918 but was brought up in Brooklyn, NY. After a brief career as a lawyer, he became a sportscaster for ABC (1956) and was the boxing announcer throughouT MUHAMAD ALI's career. He brought a "tell it like it is" attitude to the screen, greatly influencing the decorum of sports journalism from adulation to brassy and verbose.
