The French Revenge

By Allan Topol

Anthony Ferrari, an American citizen and former U.S. Congressman, is now living in Milan, Italy and romantically involved with Chiara Moretti, one of the top concert pianists in the world.  When the two of them are vacationing in Corsica, and running on the beach, Chiara is shot.  Anthony launches an investigation to determine who is responsible and to punish them.

His search leads him to conclude that Russian President Volkov, an enemy of Anthony from his days as a U.S. Congressman, is responsible.  Anthony plans to assassinate Volkov.  At the last minute, he learns that he is being manipulated into taking this action by Carl Tyler, a former U.S. military officer and now the U.S. President’s National Security Advisor.  Tyler is doing this to avenge the brutal slaying by Volkov of Juliette, Tyler’s French mistress and the love of his life, 35 years ago in Paris.  Juliette had been a spy for Volkov, then a KGB agent, in Paris, until she fell in love with Tyler, who was stationed there with the U.S. military.  The two had planned to escape from Paris to Argentina.  When Volkov found out, he had Juliette brutally raped and murdered.

Anthony’s investigation enmeshes him in French politics and he clashes with Louise, a French intelligence official and former lover of his, who wants to rekindle her relationship with Anthony.  Ultimately, Anthony confronts Tyler at Camp David at a U.S. presidential retreat.

Louise’s effort to win back Anthony leads to a finale in a Paris concert hall.  Louise tries to murder Chiara who is performing with the Paris orchestra.
