CHAPTER 4:1-9 THE CROSSING OF THE JORDAN
4:8-9 THE TWELVE STONES TAKEN FROM THE JORDAN AND PILED UP IN THE MIDST OF THE JORDAN
The stones to be used as a memorial could have been taken from anywhere along the banks or canals of Jordan River and they were probably very distinctly cut and shaped. But God wanted the memorial stones taken from the bottom of the Jordan. Why? Probably because they were more natural looking and shaped. Those stones were more apt to indicate God’s miraculous work on behalf of Israel’s crossing of the Jordan. In other words, God always chooses the things are most suitable and significant rather than things that are spectacular and flamboyant.
