JOSHUA 2:18 JOSHUA INSTRUCTS THE WAY TO SALVATION
'Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee. '
This was Joshua’s instructions to Rahab for salvation. She had the responsibility of bringing the message of salvation to the rest of her family and friends. The Gospel of Christ is the instruction to salvation. Rahab had to make sure that red rope was hanging from her window and what did Joshua say? If you are any member of your family go into the street instead of coming out the window of your house, they will be killed and their blood will be on their own head. This is true of those who reject the gospel. They are taking their lives into their own hands when they figure they can get to heaven in a different way. They go out into the BROADWAY instead of coming through the narrow door of Christ. The result is they end up paying the price for their own efforts which is eternal separation from God. So, Joshua was warning Rahab and letting her know that the only way they could be saved was to come out through the window of her house and to shimmy down to the ground using the red rope. Red is a significant color in the Bible because it represents life blood. The only way a sinner can escape the torment of hell is by your sins washed away by the blood of Jesus.
