DEUTERONOMY 17:14-15 THEY CAN HAVE A KING FROM AMONG THEIR OWN
14“When you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you, and you possess it and live in it, and you say, ‘I will set a king over me like all the nations who are around me,’ 15you shall surely set a king over you whom the Lord your God chooses, one from among your countrymen you shall set as king over yourselves; you may not put a foreigner over yourselves who is not your countryman.
I find it interesting that God would eventually allow them to have a king from among their own people. Now, their having a king of their own was not promised by God as a mercy, neither was it commanded for them to get a king. Why not? Because they had a divine King. In 1 Samuel we will see that they would want a king with skin own.
QUESTION: Why would they want a king like the other nations?
