LEVITICUS 25
LEVITICUS 25:3-4 SABBATH FOR THE LAND
3Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather in its crop, 4but during the seventh year the land shall have a sabbath rest, a sabbath to the Lord; you shall not sow your field nor prune your vineyard.
The Law of Moses made the Sabbath a big deal. So much so that God extended the Sabbath to the Promise Land itself. This was known as a sabbatical year. The Jews saw the six years as the 6,000 years the earth was being created and the seventh as a thousand years to rest since they understood that one day to God is as a thousand years.
