EPISODE 25 :: EXODUS 20 THRU 22 :: GOD COMES TO MOUNT SINAI

EXODUS 20:1-17 GOD DELIVERS THE LAW.

Exodus 20:6

6 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

            This is a promise that is made not only to the nation of Israel, but also to succeeding generations of all believers, particularly to those who obey the commands of God.  In the second commandment God declares a fulfilled promise of deliverance when He said, “Who brought you out…” or “Which have brought thee…” which is translated into a promise of blessings to succeeding generations based on obedience.  What is that obedience?  It is to plant the word of God in our families which results in blessing.  The greater blessing is God Himself and we know this because Jesus says in John 14:21, “ He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” This is a promise fulfilled based on our obedience which results in a cascading blessing to our posterity or those who come after us.  The key word in Exodus 20:6 and John 14:21 is love and if we obey the Lord it means we love Him.
