RESPECT VERSUS AFFINITY

Over the years, efforts to address the social-economic plight of Urban American youth have been expressed with platitudes. Such expressions as Care, Sympathy, and Concern have dominated the process of tough love and motivation of self-reliance. More than anything else, the ability to utilize personal gifts and strengths, far outweighs any kind of handout from others. To respect someone is to honor their skill and autonomy. The power lies within them. Whereas, to show affinity towards someone empowers the giver of sympathy.
