One of the most significant aspects to teaching and learning is the ability of the student to receive and process information. There are a number of reasons that may cause learning to be hindered. In particular, any disregard to cultural orientation and interest can likely lead to disengagement in the discovery process. As related to the Urban American academic achievement gap, one should consider cultural aspects of motivation and communication within families and neighborhoods.
