As we transition from 2017 into 2018, it is important to consider the tremendous need for personal, family and cultural change for the better. Often when the discussion about youth who struggle in society is held, little attention is placed on the reality that they did not come in the world as they are, but rather was socialized to become who they are today. The latter reality requires a sober assessment of the immediate influences of parents, family and community on the behaviors and identity of youth.
