The nation's first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. However, it was not until 1972–58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day official–that the day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United StatesThe idea of a special day to honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood was introduced from the United States. There, a woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired by the American Mother's Day celebrations to plan a day to honor fathers. In the USA,Father's Day has been celebrated in June since 1910the third Sunday in June, a day on which fathers are particularly honored by their children, especially with gifts and greeting cards.
