Amazing Dash-Cam Footage Captures a Powerful Tornado Ripping Across a Road
Story by Hannah Crawford.
Brandon Copic is a verified storm chaser who gets his excitement from chasing wild storms, horrific hurricanes, and devastating Tornadoes. In the video below, he drives down the Keota, Iowa, roadway, where he witnesses an enormous tornado ripping through.
The tornado’s funnel is curved and looks to stretch almost a mile on the opposite side of the road. The top of the funnel looks white, and the tornado’s base is seen as black due to the debris it is picking up.
As Copic drives straight toward it, the tornado starts to move across the road at incredible speeds. It is expected that Copic would stop, but he continues straight on! The closer he gets we are able to see the immense damage and size of this tornado.
A Tonardo can be defined as an air column that extends from the clouds to the Earth’s surface and rotates quickly.
Tornadoes are caused by instability in the atmosphere. And when they strike, there are mere minutes, if not seconds, to prepare for its impending doom.
Did you know that tornadoes have multiple names? When you hear someone refer to these names, they reference a tornado.
As the tornado has reached the other side of the road, Copic pulls his car into the median, and talks to his viewers about how large this tornado is, and describes it as “ripping the fields up.”
The clip seen below is a short clip on Copic’s Twitter page.
