Severe weather, including high winds and very large hail, was pummeling the Southern Plains on Friday evening, a day after tornadoes were reported across five states, forecasters said.
Forecasters said Friday’s storms were capable of spawning more tornadoes, and at least one was confirmed in Kansas.
On Friday afternoon, photos and videos on social media appeared to show a tornado landing near Spalding, Nebraska, not far from the site of another funnel captured on video, south of Bartlett. Another storm spotter shared a photo of ominous skies he said he saw in Hooper, about 100 miles away.
A local news reporter shared a video of a baseball field damaged by a storm in Pawnee County, Nebraska. By Friday evening, there were reports of two known injuries between Lyons and Oakland, and widespread damage to homes, including one that appeared to have shifted off its foundation. The area is rural and the full extent of destruction wouldn’t be known until the daytime, the National Weather Service said.
