Conflict. A conflict is a struggle or an opposition. If you and your best friend both fall in love with the same person, you will have to find some way to resolve the conflict. Conflict comes from the Latin word for striking, but it isn't always violent. Conflict can arise from opposing ideas.

Doublethink, doublespeak or double-talk. Doublethink is the ability to accept two conflicting beliefs, opinions, or facts as valid and correct, simultaneously. ... Double-talk means speech that is impossible to understand, usually a mixture of purposefully unintelligible words and random, nonsense syllables.

Doublethink is related to, but differs from, hypocrisy and neutrality. Also related is cognitive dissonance, in which contradictory beliefs cause conflict in one's mind. Doublethink is notable due to a lack of cognitive dissonance—thus the person is completely unaware of any conflict or contradiction.
