1)  Roman calendar was counted Ab urbe condita ("from the foundation of the city"), in 753 BC.

2)  In 476 C.E. Romulus, the last of the Roman emperors in the west, was overthrown by the Germanic leader Odoacer, who became the first Barbarian to rule in Rome. The order that the Roman Empire had brought to western Europe for 1000 years was no more.

3)  This timeline highlights the major events in the history of Ancient Rome. This timeline goes from 753 BC to 27 B.C. and then from 64 A.D. to 1453 A.D.  Rome was founded by Romulus. Romulus was the first of the seven Roman kings.

4) Roman Republic (509 BC -- 27 BC) ... A number of important events took place at the end of the Roman Kingdom and beginning of the Roman Republic. In 509 BC, K ing Lucius Tarquinius Superbus was overthrown by the noble men of Rome.
