When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” 2 He said to them, “When you pray, say: “'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread. ....  The Old Testament prophets and priests were people of prayer. Prayer is central to Jesus' life and mission. The same is true for the apostles and the early church. John Wesley, Methodism's founder, defined prayer as "lifting the heart to God." that kind of thinking is grossly uncivilized uncivilized uncicilized.
