From the Greeks, the Romans borrowed or copied ideas on art, literature, religion and architecture. A prime example is in the pantheon of gods worshiped by Romans. With the exception of their names, the Greek gods and goddesses were the models used for the Roman pantheon of deities.*** The Romans became powerful after Rome changed from a monarchy to a republic. As a monarchy, the city-state was unable to prevent foreign rulers from assuming power.*** Historians believe that the city of Rome was founded in 625 BC, which means that the Romans lived more than two and a half thousand years ago. The final fall of Rome occurred in the year 1453 AD, which means that some Romans lived less than six hundred years ago. *** After Rome became a republic, its people made strategic treaties with some nations and broke existing treaties with others. This helped Rome form alliances that helped its people conquer other city-states. During this period, Romans started using new weapons and battle tactics, giving them the opportunity to become a powerhouse in Italy.
